BUTTERFLY’S KISS.

INTRODUCTION
The sunset is so beautiful. The sky is red-crimson, it seems that it’s covered with gold.
The sun has already disappeared behind the horizon.
He was watching this beauty, standing by the window.
He had some more work to do. He was expecting the important documents, and besides he had to make some important calls… It was getting dark… Having lost himself in thought, he looked again at the window.
The sun has already gone and the sky got black. The lamp on the table. He heard a strange rustling in the silence. He listened – the rustling went again. He looked at the window and… saw a night butterfly in the corner. She hopelessly flitted up and down, trying in vain to set herself free.
He was watching these fly, her efforts and he was sitting motionless. The butterfly was flying to the lamp, then was going back to the window, as if she was asking him to open it and set her free.
But he was sitting motionless, perhaps thinking about some personal things.
BUTTERFLY’S KISS.
PART I.
She. He again recalls her facial features. Golden-brown hair, hanging down her shoulders, expressive delicate look of her gray eyes, and lips ready for a nice smile. He was afraid to say her name, to say it out loud. She is the one, unique, the only one for him. If he says her name out loud something may be changed…
Because there are so many people with the same name, but she is the one, the only one in this huge world. She burst into his quiet life so unexpectedly, that she turned everything upside down. He was recalling how she used to wake him up in the mornings, kissing him tenderly and saying: “Wake up, honey. Your coffee and sandwich are waiting for you”. Then she used to sit beside him and watch him having his breakfast.
Seeing him off to the office, she embraced him tenderly, saying: “I’ll be waiting for you, sweetie, come back quickly.”
She was unique. Every day he was discovering something new in her, which was unknown before. Yes, she loved him; she loved him so much, that he couldn’t even believe that it was possible. He was recalling those days, which he spent with her, so clearly, as it was happening to him at the present, but it was just a dream. At that time he didn’t take seriously everything what was happening. She was so tender and delicate, so thoughtful and careful with him.
He didn’t understand it then. But now, recalling all this by minutes and moments, he realized how strong he was loved by her. She loved him as no one else before. He recalled how once, why once, they often had a walk in the park in the evenings, but he recalled how once they were walking down the autumn park alley, stepping on the pavement covered with autumn foliage.
They were walking silently, and then she turned to him and said: “I’ve never loved anyone like you before. I won’t live without you”.
He smiled then, shrugged his shoulders and said: “I ran out of cigarettes. Let’s go, I want smoke one”.
That’s silly. Why he didn’t tell her that he needed her as well. Why he didn’t tell that he felt so good and calm with her, why he didn’t embrace her, why didn’t kiss…
He needed her now, when she’s not here.
May be that is why he didn’t tell it, because she was near at that time, and now, when she’s not and never will be around, he suffers so much because he didn’t do it at the right time…She is again in front of his eyes. Her image appeared in his mind. He smoked already third cigarette. The smoke was curling around. He recalled how she told him. “You smoke so much. It is harmful. Look, everything around is in smoke,”- and took away his burning cigarette, she threw it in an ashtray. Having embraced his shoulders, she kissed him tenderly.
“I’m happy, because I have you,”- she said to him then.
Now he wanted to hear these words once more… But she’s gone. Gone forever from his life.
She’s gone. Flown away from him as unexpectedly as she came into his life.
It happened on the eve of his birthday. Having returned home from the office he saw a present laying on the table. Watches with bracelet, inscribed with his name and golden Parker. And a letter was lying under the present.
Having unwrapped it, he read: “My dear, I want to wish you a happy birthday.” You are the best. I love you very much. I can’t imagine my life without you. I bless the day you were born. I want you to be happy. I don’t want you to know any sadness and grief. I wish you the same love I have, I know you didn’t love me, but I wish you to fall in love as much as I fell in love with you. I wish you health, luck and happiness in your life.
I’m going, or it’s better to say I’m flying away… Far away, to a different country, I can’t live here where you are, but without you…
I love you very much; I want to say it to you once more… Remember me…”
Having read the letter again, he gently put it back to the envelope.
He thought about something again.
“Yeah, Parker. That’s right. I presented it to Eddy Lawrence, when he became my boss,”- he thought. Having pulled out the drawer, he searched his papers, and then he put there the envelope with her letter. He was about to close the drawer, saw a small box. He opened it and saw… watches. On the reverse side he read an inscription: “Time with you is unforgettable.”
He sat in silence for a little bit longer…
“Strange. It’s quiet. Very quiet”. No more rustling is heard. He raised his head and turned around. ”Where this butterfly gone? Where is she?”
He began looking for her everywhere. “The butterfly is gone” – he thought. “But how she could fly away? Everything is closed – doors and windows. She couldn’t have flown away”.
Having looked again, he realized that the butterfly has really gone. Flown away. Flown away from him to her freedom… He stayed alone in the night silence, and no more rustling and flitting of the beautiful butterfly surround him…
